In early May I will be heading over to Kolkata to work with Pollinate Energy on a Professional Fellowship.
Pollinate Energy is a social business that brings life changing products to the millions of people living in urban slums in India. It is estimated that there are in excess of 65 million people living in slums in India. Pollinate work within these communities to provide them with products and services. The solution that Pollinate have developed is to build distribution networks that bring life-changing products straight to families’ doorsteps, as well as educating customers about products and providing payment plans to make them affordable.
I have been inspired by the work that Pollinate do and the business model that they are using to deliver a positive impact. After hearing about their fellowship program, I knew that it would be a fantastic way to gain greater understanding of social startups and impact. As part of the fellowship program, I will be immersing myself in the organisation’s operations, working with the local team in Kolkata and learning about the challenges that those living in urban slums face daily, through daily visits with the Pollinators. I hope to be able to use my skills and knowledge to help Pollinate overcome some of their most pressing challenges.
As part of this fellowship I am raising money to support the work that pollinate are doing on the ground. I have the lofty goal of raising $3,800 to help Pollinate build on the work that they have been doing – the bonus of donations made here is that every dollar you donate is generously matched by The Intrepid Foundation.
However, to add an incentive, I am also going to compete in the Maroondah Dam 50km trail run, which will see me suffering up and down through the trails of the Yarra Ranges – all to raise awareness and funds for Pollinate.
I would like to thank you in advance for your generous donation and if you would like to follow my journey while I’m in Kolkata, or alternatively the suffering I will be going through on the 50km run, please follow my Instagram @jarrodbosanko
